| PURPLE BLOTCH OR BLIGHT
 Click on Image for larger photo. | Small, whitish, sunken lesions appear on the succulent leaves. These lesions first appear towards the leaf tip and later on the lower leaves. In case of seed crops, proper seed filling does not take place.
| 1. Seed treatment with Organomercurials or Copper fungicides (Blitox. Blue Copper 0.3%).
2. Foliar sprays with Dithane M-45 (0.2%) or Difolatan (0.3%) at 8 days interval using sticket.

| SMUT | Attacks the cotyledons of young plants soon after their emergence, causing dark, elongated eruptive spots. On older leaves, lesions may extend from the base of the tip and appear as blisters. Plants may be killed within a month after attack. On bulbs also, blisters are formed on outer scales which rupture to expose masses of black powdery spores.
| 1.Seed treatment with organomercurials.
2. Application of formaldehyde in the soil before planting.
3. Use resistant varieties.
